DAVID PETROFF is a registered patent attorney and represents clients in intellectual property matters, with a focus on clients with complex technologies. His practice is concentrated in the areas of patent litigation, prosecution, agreements and opinion matters. He actively participates in patent infringement cases and counsels clients on product development, strategic patent planning and patent enforcement. He has over seventeen years of experience as an IP Lawyer and Professional Engineer.

David has been involved in all aspects of patent litigation and prosecution in matters related to diverse areas of Computer Hardware and Software technology including Digital Rights Management, Cryptography, Operating Systems, Hybrid Fiber Coax CATV Networks, Set Top Boxes, Printer / Mail Machines, RF Systems, Internet Systems, Data Storage, Storage Area Networks, Flash Memory, CAD, along with Analog Systems, Optical Systems, Bioinformatics, Mechanical Systems, Medical Devices, Multi-Stage Turbines, and Printing / Inserting Machines.

Before joining Davidson Davidson and Kappel, David was an IP lawyer at Kaye Scholer and Hoffmann Baron. He also practiced for six years as a professional engineer with Collins Defense Communications of Rockwell International and as a team leader and project officer with Martin Marietta Ltd. (formerly General Electric Aerospace).

His technical experience as an engineer involved software development, processor based hardware design, analog and digital circuit design, along with RF systems, laser systems, and product testing and repair.

He participated in the design and development of a Virtual Reality Simulator, Collins Transportable Military Communication Systems, Coast Guard Radio Telex Shipboard System, and Integrated Communication Control System for air traffic control.

David is a member of several professional legal and technology organizations. To name a few, he is a member of the State Bar of New York, United States Patent and Trademark Office, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Professional Engineers of Ontario, and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
