Jan M. Decker, admitted in New York (2005) and Germany (2000), received his LL.M. from Fordham University Law School where he focused on Intellectual Property Law. He graduated from Philipps University Law School, Marburg, Germany with his First State Examination Law Degree in 1997, received his Second State Examination Law Degree in 2000 and is admitted to the New York State Bar, to the United States District Court of the Southern District of New York, and to the District and State Courts of Germany.

Mr. Decker’s practice includes litigating U.S. patents with an emphasis on providing assistance to German clients during all aspects of the U.S. litigation process. He was the lead litigation associate for DDK in Goss International Americas, Inc. v. K&M Newspaper Services, Inc. in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, which settled after a significant Markman decision in Goss’ favor. In addition, Mr. Decker is experienced managing client patent portfolios during the corporate merger and acquisition process.

During legal training in preparation for the Second State Examination in Law, Mr. Decker served as a judicial clerk for the District Court Frankfurt, legal clerk for the Frankfurt District Attorney, worked for the City of Frankfurt legal department, and clerked on a U.S. and German cross-border litigation discovery for the law firm Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker, LLP in New York.

Prior to joining Davidson, Davidson & Kappel, Mr. Decker worked on U.S. litigation matters for Linklaters in Cologne, Germany and as an associate attorney in litigation with Paule & Partner in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Mr. Decker is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Frankfurt Bar Association. Mr. Decker is bilingual (English and German).
